What are the functions of compound alkali

Compound alkali is a multifunctional chemical agent mainly used to adjust pH values, neutralize acidic substances, and participate in precipitation reactions. It is widely used in wastewater treatment, industrial production, and environmental remediation.

Its functions include, but are not limited to:

1. pH Adjustment: Compound alkali can quickly raise the pH value of water or solutions to a neutral or slightly alkaline range (typically pH 8-12), which is crucial for neutralization reactions in wastewater treatment.

2. Neutralizing Acidic Wastewater: In industries such as electroplating, metallurgy, and chemicals, compound alkali can effectively neutralize acidic wastewater (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid), preventing corrosion of pipes and equipment.

3. Heavy Metal Removal: By reacting with heavy metal ions (such as lead, cadmium, and copper) to form hydroxide precipitates, it achieves highly efficient removal (adsorption rates can reach over 50%).

4. Desulfurization and Denitrification: It assists in the removal of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in flue gas treatment.

 

5. Sterilization and algae inhibition: A high pH environment can inhibit the growth of microorganisms and is often used in circulating water systems. In addition, compound alkali has advantages such as high stability (shelf life of 2 years), safe use (non-hazardous chemicals) and low cost, but care should be taken to control the dosage to avoid over-alkalization.
